The operational hours of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv are Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Consular services, including passports, registering the birth of a child, and notary services, are scheduled by appointment only. Before the appointment, the people need to complete any necessary application forms and read the information about the service that he/she need. The U.S. nationals who need emergency services do not need an appointment.

The Embassy is closed to the public on weekends and U.S. and Ukrainian Holidays. Fees for consular services can be paid either in U.S. dollars or Ukrainian UAN.

Information for Americans traveling to Ukraine

The U.S. citizens planning to enter the country of Ukraine do not need a visa for visits up to 90 days in any 180 day period if their purposes for travelling are tourism or business. They must provide evidences of valid health insurance and sufficient funds for the duration of their stay.

If a visitor’s stay in Ukraine is over 90 days, he/she will need to get visa and residency permit. The U.S. citizen must receive the visa in advance at a Ukrainian embassy or consulate. It is important to know that a Ukrainian visa cannot be obtained at the airport or at the border! The visitor must apply with the State Migration Service of Ukraine (SMS) for a residency permit within 45 days from your entry date. Once the U.S. citizen has the residency permit he/she can stay in Ukraine for as long as it remains valid.

The U.S. citizens can also receive help with passports, social security, notary services and other issues at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.
